Advocacy Day at the Statehouse was held on April 29th. This is an annual event coordinated by BOMA Ohio where the local associations across the state (Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Toledo) meet in the Statehouse to discuss important commercial real estate industry related policies with legislators.

Here is a quick look at the topics BOMA members covered with their state legislators:

•BOMA Ohio supports HB 333, which aims to put an end to drive-by ADA lawsuits

•BOMA Ohio has significant concerns about the proposal in the Mid Biennium Review to increase the Commercial Activities Tax (CAT) rate from 0.26% to 0.30%.

•BOMA Ohio believes commercial property owners and managers deserve to be included in the Energy Mandates Study Committee, which is proposed in SB 310.

•BOMA Ohio supports tax incentives for energy efficiency projects and retrofits to existing buildings.

As important as it is to convey the way our members are affected by state policy proposals, it is equally important to be recognized as the voice of the commercial real estate industry.
